Saddle Up

Ok, so I know that about a week ago I was discussing the men's shoe being the girl's new flats....which I still totally stand by. But it has just occurred to me, that I'm actually a little bit more obsessed with Saddle Shoes as opposed to just men's shoes for girls. And by that I mean: I MUST own a pair. I'll probably end up getting both (I'll sell a kidney/organ). But really, this shoe is where it's at. The funniest part about my ridiculous obsession with this shoe is that I actually owned a saddle-ish style shoe in high school (1994), via Dock Marten. Can you imagine? A giant chunky Doc Marten heel on an already over the top (for our time) saddle shoe? It was kinda like, well this:

Please don't confuse this for what I'm actually promoting. I'm much more interested in something closer to the original:

Clockwise from top left: Bass Enfield Saddle Shoe ($65), Adriana by Camper ($150), Marais USA lace-up ($48), and Sophie Shoe by Vans ($55).

Which I undoubtedly stole from The Cut. But I just couldn't help myself. They found the best options for this shoe.

LOVE IT.

Prairie lovely

Denver is such a hard place to look "Up to date" in. That's why I'm in love with prairie style. Of course most of these looks debuted last spring, but I have a feeling they would be perfect for Spring in Denver 2010. Very comfortable looking.

Death by fashion

Apparently the new trend in men's fashion is death. Strange, but different? The Alexander McQueen show has one of his models channeling Johhny Depp in "From Hell."

The new ballet flats?

While searching for the new flat comfort shoe I came across the wingtip classic. The women's version is slightly daintier than the mens, but it's still undoubtedly masculine. I love it paired with a baggy slightly lighter 90's ish jeans, also rolled a bit. My husband is currently wearing a similar pair which is very close to the woman's in the picture.

Going Grey

Becoming bored with the blue, black, and almost black nail I searched for an adequate replacement. My current favorite substitute/replacement is a deep taupey-grey. Still quite dramatic, but less overdone. The one I'm currently obsessed with OPI's "You don't Know Jacques!" I'm not really a girl who keeps a manicure, but I do love a nail that says something. I like to think of it as an accent so right now I say wear taupy grey instead of black or blue.

Mile-High Salute

Denver. The Mile-High City. Land of fresh air, 300+ days of sun, and more outdoor activities than time to enjoy them. Incidentally, and likely due to these selling points, it's also a city of obsessively casual attire. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But there comes a time when simply throwing on jeans, trail shoes, and a fleece doesn't quite cut it. And for those moments, we present the Like it, Love it blog. This isn't New York, and it certainly isn't LA, and what works there may not fly around here. Our goal isn't to bully anybody into a full-on style overhaul, we just want to toss around some ideas and see if we can't get the fashion bar lifted just a bit higher. Or a lot, but that's just us.
